How to Use It#

Enter each hand as it finishes: who declared, the contract, whether it was doubled, and how it turned out. Everything downstream of that is worked out for you — the trick score below the line, the overtricks and penalties above it, the slam and insult bonuses, when a game is won, who becomes vulnerable, and the rubber bonus when a side wins its second game.

Honours are the one thing the calculator cannot know, because they depend on the thirteen cards in a hand rather than on the result. If a player held four or five of the top trumps — or all four aces at no trumps — pick the payment on the Honours row. What honours are worth covers the detail.

Vulnerability is derived, never entered. In rubber bridge it is earned by winning a game rather than dealt with the board, so the calculator tracks it and applies it to the hand you are scoring. It is shown above the form so you can check it against the table.

Any hand can be corrected after the event. Every hand you enter is listed under the form; ✎ loads one back into the form to change and ✕ deletes it. The rubber is then re-scored from the first hand, so a contract entered at the wrong level does not leave the games, the vulnerability or the part-scores of everything after it quietly wrong — which is what makes this safe to use while the cards are still being played rather than after.

What It Handles#

The pad is kept in your browser, so it survives closing the tab. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no account — see the privacy policy.

The Same Engine the App Scores With#

This is not a second implementation of the rules written for the website. The calculator imports the same scoring module the Rase app uses to score its own rubbers, so the two cannot disagree with each other. If you want the game as well as the pad, play a rubber in your browser.

Try it against three robots

Rase plays a full rubber, scores it the traditional way, and grades every bid and card afterwards.

Both are free. In the browser there is nothing to install and no sign-up; the iPhone and iPad app adds no ads, no accounts, no tracking, and plays offline.
